What ImportCost is, who it is for, and what it is not.
What this is
ImportCost is a reference tool for people who need to understand a U.S. import charge — a consumer facing an unexpected courier bill, a small seller re-costing a product after a tariff change, or anyone trying to work out what a shipment will cost before ordering it.
Why it exists
Duty-free de minimis treatment ended for all countries on August 29, 2025, and the tariff landscape has changed repeatedly since. Most published guidance is either out of date or written for customs brokers. ImportCost aims at the gap: current, sourced, and readable by someone who has never filed an entry.
Who runs it
ImportCost is an independent, one-person project. It is not a company, a customs brokerage, or a law firm, and it has no staff, no clients, and no professional accreditation of any kind. It is published because the information was hard to find and often out of date, not because its author holds any qualification to give advice about it. Treat it as a well-sourced starting point maintained by one person, and verify anything that matters against the official documents linked on every page.
It can be wrong
Errors are possible and, given how often U.S. tariff rules have changed, likely at some point. Data is entered and verified by hand, updates are not instantaneous, and a figure that was correct on its verification date may already be stale. Where something cannot be established from official data, the site says so rather than filling the gap — but that safeguard does not make the rest of it guaranteed. What it is not
ImportCost is not a licensed customs broker and does not provide customs, legal, or tax advice. It does not file entries, does not represent importers before CBP, and cannot determine whether your goods qualify for a preference program. The importer of record remains legally responsible for classification and for exercising reasonable care.
